Hampton Court Oct.5

This was the rose garden.  I was hoping to get the statue, garden, and the palace in the back.  From this view, it seemed like the palace stretched on for ever, and even here I guess, because all the buildings you see in the back are a part of the palace.

This was interesting to me:  So the palace was taken from this guy who fell out of favor of King Henry VIII and so Henry got his place and hunting grounds...  I am sure he did some adjustments to it before moving in, but it was all done in the Tudor style (which is the style you see on the right).  Later William and Mary moved in and had plans to update the place to the Baroque style (which you see on the left).  After Mary died William lost interest in the place, and I don't think they had the money either- so only a portion of the palace is  redone.  Here is a corner where both meet.  The Baroque was my favorite, but it is cool to have both here.

This is the longest grape vine in the world.  It's roots are outside of the glasshouse and the vines are led inside.

Some of the girls

I took a picture of this because the gate led from Hampton gardens to the "wild" park.  It seemed like such a fanciful world on the other side... Magical :)

The chimneys in the Tudor side were really cool.  They had lots of crazy patterns on them.

The clock tower.
